Book Review - The Ugly Sister by Jane Fallon

Over the holidays I decided to take a break from short and Christmas stories and set myself up with a novel from one of my favourite authors - Jane Fallon.
I have loved every book that I have read from Jane and this one certainly didn't disappoint. I'm a slow reader, however I read this book within two weeks (quick for me).
There are no spoilers in this post.
A bit about the book:
When it comes to genes, life is a lottery . . .
Abi knows that all too well, having spent her life in the shadow of her beautiful, glamorous older sister Cleo.
Headhunted as a model at sixteen, Cleo has been all but lost to Abi for twenty years. So when Abi is invited to spend the summer with her sister's perfect family, she says yes. Maybe Cleo is finally as keen as Abi to regain their childhood closeness?
But Abi is in for a shock. Soon she's left in charge of her two spoilt nieces and her handsome, unhappy brother-in-law. As she moves into her sister's life, a cuckoo in the nest, Abi wrestles with uncomfortable feelings.
Could having beauty, wealth and fame lead to more unhappiness than not having them? Who in the family really is the ugly sister?

I loved the relationship and tension between the three main characters, Cleo, Abi & Cleo's husband. You get a real sense of the emotions that Abi experiences towards her sister that have stemmed from their childhood, all the way through to their adulthood.
I enjoyed the simplicity of Abi's life, I found it to be refreshing and, if Jane ever wanted to continue writing about Abi's life, I think there is a lot of fun to be had. I would love to know what comes next for her and how she rebuilds her life when her daughter decides to go on to university.
The book certainly didn't conclude how I thought it would, which was both good (as I love a surprise), but at the same time it felt frustrating, as I became so deeply involved with Abi and Cleo.
I would highly recommend this book, I will certainly be sharing my copy with family & friends. The book definitely deserves a five star rating and a huge round of applause.
I'm currently reading 'Getting Rid of Matthew' and I will certainly be purchasing a copy of Jane's new book 'Faking Friends', which has been published today - Congratulations Jane and I wish you a huge success.
