My latest read is 'My Sweet Revenge' by Jane Fallon, this book was recommended to me by my sister and I've been looking for a copy since, so I was delighted when I saw a copy sitting on the shelf of one of my local charity shops.

Amazon blurb of 'My Sweet Revenge'.

I want to make my husband fall back in love with me.

Let me explain. This isn't an exercise in 1950s wifeydom. I haven't been reading articles in old women's magazines. 'Twenty ways to keep your man'. That couldn't be further from the truth.

I want him to fall back in love with me so that when I tell him to get the hell out of my life he'll care. He won't just think, 'Oh good'.

I want it to hurt.

Paula has had Robert's back since they got together as drama students. She gave up her dreams so he could make it. Now he's one of the nation's most popular actors. And Paula's just discovered he's having an affair.

She's going to remind Robert just what he's sacrificing. And then she's going to break his heart like he broke hers. It will be her greatest acting role ever.

Revenge is sweet.

Isn't it?

I've read two other books by Jane Fallon, 'Skeletons' & 'Strictly between us' and I have enjoyed them both, so I was keen to read 'My Sweet Revenge', and I was not disappointed.

As much as I enjoy reading, it can take me weeks (sometimes months) to get through a book, not because I'm not enjoying it but because life gets busy, and by the end of the day I just want to sleep. However, I couldn't put 'My Sweet Revenge' down.

As the blurb says, Paula finds that her husband Robert is having an affair. Rather than confront him she wants to take back control, make him wish he had never strayed and, more importantly, ditch the mistress.

From the beginning of the book Jane launches into the heart of the story, the reader isn't kept waiting for Paula to find out what Robert is up to. The story shows how Paula handles the news by creatively shaking up her marriage. This book is written in the first person (mostly Paula) and I enjoyed viewing the story from Paula's perspective. There is certainly a lot of humour between the pages (a few times I laughed out loud).

Paula undergoes a physical transformation and I love the journey of the details and achievements that Paula describes. I think it's something that most women can relate to regardless of how we view our own bodies.

At times I could guess the direction that the story was going in and then other times there were a couple of curve balls which I didn't see coming. I love curve balls and I think this is what kept me reading at such a fast pace. I just had to know what happened next!

Towards the end I did get a bit confused as to who had said what, as lies are covered up with more lies and my head did spin a little (I would be hopeless if I ever had to play these games).

I did enjoy the other characters in the book, they are believable and interesting (notice I didn't say they were all likeable).

The book had me smiling at the end - I love a book with a happy ending (for some).
